A Peaceful Retreat: Master Bedroom

Q. I have wanted to re-do my master bedroom for the past five years and I am finally getting the chance! I want a peaceful and soft color scheme but my husband doesn’t want the room to look dull. How can I create a calm & soft look that is not dull and boring so my husband is happy to. Elaine D.

A. I am so excited that you have the opportunity to create the master bedroom of your dreams! A peaceful color scheme in pastel hues when combined with dramatic choices of furniture and beautiful lighting/accessories will make you both happy. Start by selecting your Wow Factor, the element that you can build the design around. When you decide to create a monochromatic color scheme, I recommend more than one wow factor to create some drama in the space. This room is a perfect example of the concept I am describing. The upholstered headboard, fabulous chandelier and bench with vintage finish are all bold choices that each contribute to the overall design. This allows the other selections for the room and the color scheme to be simple and peaceful without feeling dull.

Neutral grass cloth walls and a mist green fabric headboard create the backdrop for this peaceful master bedroom. The pattern rug, dark brown finish on the chair and turquoise pillow add interest without being overbearing.

I love how the chic modern selections in this room provide subtle wow while contributing to the overall feel of calm. Check out Metal Beds Ltd. for some additional options.

The overall feel of this room is calm and inviting. The star-burst in gold creates just the right amount of drama to balance the soothing choices around it. A bench at the foot of the bed completes the look.

Monochromatic bliss! Textures and layering are what makes this master so inviting. Woven wood shades layered with fabric panels, lush pillows on the bed and chairs, and  beautiful moldings make this master the perfect retreat. A sitting area adds to the bliss.

Let’s end the day with serenity and luxury. This master boasts the perfect hue of blue, elegant bedding and lighting with a dramatic ceiling and fabulous moldings. All of these master bedrooms are examples of how a peaceful retreat with a soothing color scheme doesn’t have to feel dull but rather beautiful and inviting. Let me know how it turns out, I would love to see it!
