Let’s Get Cookin:Thanksgiving

Every year I look forward to making my Grandma Louise’s stuffing and some of our favorite family recipes at Thanksgiving but I also like to infuse the menu with some snappy new ideas. Some recipes are huge hits while others are a total flop but one thing is for sure, we all have fun trying them together. Oh by the way, this is my dream kitchen, fully stocked and ready for me to cook and entertain in hehehe. Here is the round up of this years recipes that I will be adding to our menu of traditional favorites.

French Onion Soup Surprise; My kids are just crazy for homemade onion soup and honestly I hardly ever make it, this first course is a surprise for them. I found this recipe by Paula Deen (so you know it is super yummy) and tested it out at a lunch with my girlfriends, it was a huge hit! Classic with a twist, she uses Gruyere cheese. Most people would shy away from using different cheese varieties with kids but my husband Kurt works for a cheese company and our kids just adore all types of cheese. Mix & Match Turkey; Here he is, the famous Tom turkey getting ready for his debut. In my family we like a dry brine turkey with an herb seasoned butter. These recipes from my beloved Food Network allow you to mix and match options to create the perfect roasted turkey for your family. Roasting recipes here.

Browned Butter Mashed Potato Bliss; Time for confessions, mine is that I am a mashed potatoes addict. My family thinks mashed potatoes are super boring and they are not happy if I add fresh garlic to jazz them up. A client of mine gave me this recipe to try that she found in Southern Living, she said that it was mashed potatoes made better by browning the butter (I used the slow cooker and they come out perfect). Here is the recipe.

Rosemary Roasted Carrots; My husband’s favorite vegetable is carrots and to his surprise this year I am actually planning to do something with them. I found colorful organic carrots like these at a small specialty grocer and I am so excited to have them on our table looking so pretty. Quick and simple recipe here from Oh My Veggies.

Mini Pumpkin Pie Love; Pumpkin pie is my favorite but by the time desert is ready I’m over stuffed. Here is a sweet little recipe from the fabulous Bakerella for turning a heavy pie into these delectable finger foods.

I hope some of these recipes I am trying will inspire you to add a few new items to your table. So much to be thankful for, Happy Thanksgiving,

I tested all of these recipes out before I chose them and the potatoes was the easiest and so yummy (I did use a slow cooker)
