I just adore Valentines Day, even when I didn’t have so many little Valentines in my life, there is just something about LOVE being in the air that makes me happy. After finally putting away all of those holiday decorations the thought of decorating for Valentines Day is not high on the priority list for most of us. Today I want to share some simple touches that will create just the right amount of Valentines Day cheer. Let’s start outside; the first impression sets the mood, I like to hang a heart outside on our front door or on a garden gate for some holiday curb appeal. Makes everyone smile when they pass by it, they can’t fool me LOL.

vd3 I’m curious to know how you celebrate Valentines Day? In my house Valentines Day has evolved into a holiday we celebrate as a family with our three Valentines. I like to create an elaborate table- scape with hearts and candles everywhere, serving a special Valentines Day dinner consisting of lobster and filet mignon (our tradition). The week before, each of my kids picks a sweet treat or dessert that we will make. Left, with temperatures in New Jersey about 18  degrees today it is hard to believe that people can celebrate outside in other parts of the world LOL. Look at this fabulous desert table, the glass decanters can be used for any holiday or everyday and I love the rustic touches. Below, the perfect Valentines Day table, festive and inviting ready for guests.

Each season I love to pick a favorite DIY project and here it is below. My daughter Sarah loves photo booth pictures and I love hearts strung as garland. We found this creation from Scrappergirl and fell in love, directions here. Further below, a fabulous find from The Farmhouse Store in Westfield, New Jersey a favorite shop of mine, more here. Simple little touches and details that will make everyone in your house feel the love!

      My teenager is making them now for a friends Sweet Sixteen and they come out fabulous XO

    We have carried on a tradition my Dad started with me. He always gave me & my Mom chocolates, and she made his favorite dinner. So over the years with our 3 kids, the girls give “the boys” chocolates and the boys give us girls chocolates! We all shop at a local artisinal chocolatier. Then agree on dinner- usually seafood :) The following week Tommy and I celebrate our Engagement Anniversary! Feb. 21st- he proposed on a double black diamond ski trail. We usully do some orential food since that night we had chinese after we came back from skiing. 26 years later – it’s still important keeping the love and special dates reasons to celebrate <3

      Kathy that sounds like such a nice tradition, love that you shop at a local chocolatier :) I also really like the idea that you get to celebrate just the two of you as well, so important. We are married 20 yrs this year and need more time together for sure <3
