During Fashion Week I was introduced to hip fashion designer Annabel Kwateng and her brand, Ashanti Brazil. I love to draw upon influences from travel and fashion when designing interiors and was intrigued by Annabel’s style and bold use of color and pattern. Ashanti is the African tribe that designer Annabel Kwateng originates from, she would vacation in Brazil and was inspired by the natural beauty, the passionate culture, and the vibrant colors of the region. Ashanti Brazil is the infusion of African prints with Brazilian color palettes and influence resulting in designs that are fun, flirty and exotic.
Now living on the French Riviera, Annabel brings her brand of tribal chic with a Brazilian flavor to the region. African and Brazilian cultures expressed in her summer wear brand with bathing suits being introduced later in the year. This tile staircase is located in colorful Rio De Janeiro; urban, hip and unique like this brand.
The concept of “living out-loud” is a trait one of my favorite international interior designer/architect Sig Bergamin possesses. Similar to Annabel, Sig’s influence from his native Brazil is reflected in everything he designs. Pictured below is his private residence in São Paulo, full of excitement and vibrancy. “I didn’t want this to be an interior-decorated house,” Bergamin explains. “I like everything, so I just put it all in a blender and mixed it up. I like taking risks.” You can view his entire townhouse here for more inspiration in color. Further below, you can see the similar influences in Annabel’s style, color palette and whimsical nature.
Architectural Digest writes about Sig Bergamin, “There’s no stopping the designer, who layers a kaleidoscope of great looks in his São Paulo house with artful abandon. Below his entire living room is a wow factor, what fun. This is what instantly drew me to Ashanti Brazil, layers of color and pattern coupled with beautiful construction. Further below is my favorite dress in Annabel’s collection; I just adore the pattern, color palette and edgy design decisions.
Annabel Kwateng and Sig Bergamin both take risks in their designs and Live Out-Loud, wouldn’t it be nice to approach life this way. I leave you today with this beautiful image from the Brazilian coastline, who wouldn’t be inspired living in this region of passion and vibrant color. Why not infuse some color and bold patterns into your personal style; fashion and decor, go for it!
