This weeks House Tour takes us to sunny Santa Monica, California a seaside city in Southern California. Just a a few miles from Los Angeles, Santa Monica is a beach city with all of the culture and character of an active metropolis. Boasting 3.5 miles of pristine California beach locations, 340 days of sunshine a year (on average), this is the ultimate Southern California beach. Can you tell I really need a vacation, on with the tour!
This charming cottage was designed to recall the California beach cottages found in the neighborhoods of Santa Monica. The interior was designed by Giannetti Home ( I love their work), their interpretation of the style is,” traditional detailing with a modern sense of space and light”. Below a scrumptious dining area is encompassed in natural light with eclectic furnishings. The mix match chairs add character and interest while the lantern light fixture adds just the right amount of weight (the image further below demonstrates this).
The color scheme throughout is serene and inviting with wide plank floors and attention to architectural details. The kitchen combines cottage details with modern features. I like the use of open shelving and the unique double sided glass cabinet in front of the window. Industrial light fixtures and stools add another layer of design detail to the room.
Below, I don’t know about you but when I look at this living room I just want to grab my book and sit in that fabulous wing back chair. Check out the fabulous ceiling detail and the built in book case impeccably styled with a lovely painted back wall. Another dining and living room further below follow the same suit of understated charm and character.
Pamper yourself in this elegant master bathroom with a claw-foot tub and touches of glam like the fabulous crystal chandelier. Further below, a feminine and chic work-space filled with design detail and character, just lovely like this entire cottage.
That is our house tour, I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into Southern California. Below, the Santa Monica Design District is a must see if you are ever in the area and are interested in interior design. Santa Monica is home to a surprising number of showrooms dedicated to modern home and workplace furnishings and design.
