Working on several homes on the coast currently the trend has been “white” everything from kitchens to walls to moldings. I have the pleasure of working with clients originally from Vermont that asked for natural wood in the kitchen and warm finishes that do not feel heavy, it is very exciting to create something that feels warm and organic. Looking for inspiration I found the architectural firm of Hutker Architects on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, their philosophy “We use honest, simple materials to create homes worthy of preservation.” Mark Hutker, AIA.
Interior design that combines the clean lines of modern cabinetry, windows and doors with the warmth of natural wood and comfortable furnishings creates an aesthetic that is inviting and livable. The beautiful wood floors are consistent throughout the home.
A circular stone fireplace is clearly a wow factor in this home providing function and aesthetics. The structure is stunning and textural even on the side where the fireplace is not, the perfect backdrop for a flat screen or a piece of art. The palette in the home is peaceful combining neutral tones with subtle color.
The window selection adds to the design aesthetic of the house, combining a farmhouse top portion with a modern bottom portion. A coffered ceiling is a lovely way to bring the natural wood into a room; any time you can add architectural details like this the room instantly has character. The master bedroom suite has the benefit of the fireplace extenuated with the high ceiling.
Designing children’s rooms that they can grow into is always my goal. This room does exactly that with a stately iron bed and upholstered headboard that any girl would love, a modern drum light and fun play area with a view. Ghost chairs in pink, just love it. I hope you have enjoyed the tour today and are inspired to combine styles like farmhouse and modern, I can tell you from experience that when you do the result is always special.
