Welcome to the home of Lori and Dan Donza. When they decided to add a great room onto to their 1950′s split level they decided to re-define their style. The goal was to create a gathering room for family and friends to enjoy spending time together, featuring a large farmhouse table and an inviting seating area to accommodate everyone in one space. This is a hip, hardworking couple who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get to work. They wanted to make their mark on the design and wow did they ever, just check out these before pictures.
A few weeks ago I shared a trend that is happening where girls are opting for a trip abroad Mother/Daughter style in lieu of a sweet sixteen party. After weeks and weeks of contemplation my daughter has made her decision and she chose, Ireland! Inspired by the hip Irish bands she loves and the lush green countryside she was introduced to in a movie called P.S. I Love You (a sweet love story) her decision was made easy. It should not come as a surprise that I am taking you to Ireland on our House Tour this week.
One of the best parts about my job as a professional designer is that I get to shop for my clients everyday. Before I had my kids I taught Interior Design at the college level for a brief period and would joke with students that you have to love shopping to be successful at this career but it is actually true. You need to be able to seek out and find that latest trend or discover that tried and true classic piece of furniture that suits your clients needs perfectly. This means constant research and constant shopping, love it! Today I am sharing a fabulous find that I stumbled upon working on a recent project where I needed to specify fabric for pillows that would pull the entire room together. This fabric had to be unique in material, design and origin because it would not only complete the design but it would become a conversational piece for my clients to share with their guests. I love designing bathrooms, especially master bathrooms. Maybe it is the endless array of beautiful tiles to choose from, the luxurious bathtubs, or just the simple pleasure of helping my clients create their dream bathroom. When designing a bathroom function and layout are foremost but not to worry, as your designer, I always have the Wow Factor in my back pocket.
Q. We are getting ready to re-do our kitchen and I have no idea where to start. I thought I wanted cherry cabinets but now I am thinking white cabinets. Would you suggest hiring a designer to help me make these selections and what is the popular finish now?
A. Creating the kitchen of your dreams is truly a personal journey. A designer can orchestrate the process and present the design options, reducing the stress level substantially but the final vision has to come from within you. I tell my clients all of the time, this is YOUR dream kitchen, you need to love everything in it! Read more
