The Country House: Wainscoting, Moldings & Millwork

I am currently working on a project where my clients just adore wainscoting, moldings and trim. Architects, Austin Patterson Disston have brought this concept to life in this fabulous country home that we are touring today. Above the entryway is always a favorite place to add wainscoting, here the walls are full panels which are just spectacular. The same concept is carried through to the living room. Read more

A Fresh Start

Spring is the perfect opportunity to start fresh, with flowers blooming and birds chirping why not get your projects in motion, get organized and start spring cleaning. I decided that my House Tour category was the perfect place to talk about home organization and spring cleaning as we tour a renovated barn in Gerona close to the border of France. Why not make the surroundings lovely as we tackle a tough job.

Tree House Treasure

One of my favorite things to do in the Spring is work on outdoor projects and get the backyard “summer ready” for us to enjoy. Since I was little I have always wanted a rockin’ tree house and I have even designed a few for clients over the years. The ultimate Dallas grandparents created this dream tree house for their grandchildren with the help of architect and family friend James Curvan. Read more

High Alpine Ranch: Montana

A while back I was designing the interior of a home in the Adirondacks’s and found this image of a dining room by the talented Lisa Kanning to show my client how fabulous dark window trim can be in a lodge inspired vacation home. I became instantly obsessed with so many of the design details in this authentically Montana ranch that I had to share it with you today in our House Tour category. Read more

A Barcelona Beauty

Our House Tour is straight from Barcelona, Spain and the Natural Park of Collserola. This picturesque home is located in a protected natural area with woodlands, meadows, wetlands and diverse wildlife, featured in El Mueble. Immediately I am drawn to the arches in the entrance and foyer, antique oak floor boards, tinted concrete walls and rustic beams. The interior reflects the concept of bringing the outdoors in, embracing the natural surroundings in the design decisions. Read more

Historic Barn Revival

I’m from New Jersey, don’t cringe it is actually quite beautiful here and a wonderful place to raise a family. There are so many myths surrounding my state that I wanted to dispel a few of them and then take you on a tour of one of New Jersey’s treasures, a historic barn from our countryside (yes, we do have a countryside). New Jersey is a collection of vibrant suburban and rural communities with excellent schools, great business opportunities, and millions of acres of parks, lakes, mountains, and farmland. Those who know New Jersey by flying in and out of Newark Airport will typically only see the most congested area of the state. Travel just 10 to 15 miles west of New York City and you’ll reach quaint suburban towns that slowly give way to more rural landscapes. Luxury Log Home

I have a passion for log homes; renting them each summer in Maine or New Hampshire where we like to vacation. It is only fitting then, as I spent the week looking at dozens of log homes on various lakes for our summer rental, that today’s House Tour is a log home. Not just any log home, a Barna Log Home.
