What I love about Anne Hathaway is how natural and down to earth her persona is. She grew up in picturesque Millburn, New Jersey just thirty minutes from my home and performed in a regional theater I take my children to called, the Paper Mill Playhouse. Since the day I watched Anne in The Princess Diaries with my daughter I have been a fan and wow, has she come a long way. Nominated for an Oscar this evening for best Supporting Actress for her role as Fantine, a role her mother played in the first U.S. tour of Les Misérables, she is favored to win. Looking stunning here wearing, the “Dorning” dress” by The Row, at the 2013 Academy Awards Nominations Luncheon held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Now for the behind the scenes tour of Anne’s residence. Read more
Today’s house tour is straight from Highbury, London; an eclectic area rich with history and character. Highbury Barn life in the 1700s was referred to as a ‘cakes and ale’ resort, an escape from the noise of the inner city. Today it remains an idyllic village in the city providing green space, unique shops and restaurants. Read more
This week we are talking all about accessories; how to use them, where to find them, why we need them and how to style them. Today I wanted to take you on a House Tour that demonstrates what a well styled home looks like and how simple decisions can help you select and place your accessories. I just adore the open plan concept and this condo sets the stage for chic styling. Starting out in the seating area; an area rug defines and grounds the seating arrangement, fabulous throw pillows add a subtle pop of color and pattern while a simple coffee table arrangement finishes the look. I don’t know about your neck of the woods but here in New Jersey it is about 10 degrees right now with a light snow fall. I am dreaming of a real island getaway and the Jumeriah Vittaveli Resort, Maldives is exactly where I want to go. Just take a moment to look at the spectacular shoreline, breathtaking. Read more
Now that the holidays are over my phone is ringing off the hook for new construction projects. It is the perfect time to start planning your renovations or additions, hiring architects, designers, obtaining bids from builders and then filing permits. It sounds like a lot but it it’s really just a process and at the end of the day my clients always tell me that they barely remember what they had to endure because they are so happy (kind of like child birth LOL). I started thinking about my own house and that list of projects I have to tackle ugg, which lead me to wanting to find my dream house. Not an easy task for an interior designer, we are exposed to dream homes and beautiful things everyday but, while searching for custom shutters for a client, I found it, my dream home, by David Small Designs.
Inspired by the Golden Globe Awards this evening I decided to feature some celebrity style. Nominated for her role in the movie Game Change, Julianne Moore has a hidden treasure in the heart of the West Village, one of my favorite NYC neighborhoods. This weeks House Tour is a peek at Julianne Moore’s historic brownstone and her romantic garden sanctuary. A hip neighborhood of quaint brownstones clustered along tree-lined cobblestone streets remains virtually unchanged since the 19th century.
House Tour is one of my favorite categories on the blog. Interior design and travel are two of my passions so this weeks tour from HomeDSGN (read more here) hits the spot on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We are traveling to the French Alps today to tour a chalet in Courchevel. It is located in the commune of Saint-Bon-Tarentaise in the French Alps and is a part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world.
With all the hustle and bustle of Christmas Eve a day away I wanted to share a House Tour today that may bring some calm to your day, a romantic cottage retreat in the countryside of Cornwall, UK. The most beautiful countryside within the British Isles with one of the few remaining unspoiled harbor villages in Cornwall is Boscastle. Designated an Area of Outstanding Beauty, a National Trust owns and cares for the beautiful medieval harbor and surrounding coastline. Read more
In the spirit of the holiday I wanted to share a fabulous house tour that I found in Country Living, it combines the warmth of Christmas with good old fashioned Tennessee charm. The couple planned to build a single room hunting cabin and through the process of collecting materials to build with they decided to create a cabin they could share and grow with as a family. The result is pure lodge love. This fabulous re-purposed bench that sits on the front porch was found at a local liquidation auction and was once part of a Whole Foods display. Read more
