Part of being an interior designer is helping my clients get organized. It is such an important step for our mental well being especially when starting a project. I can come into your home and design a beautiful space but unless we take time to purge and organize the contents it will go right back to where it was. I came across this workspace from Real Simple and fell in love with the simplicity of the design and the creative organization. Removing the doors opened up the closet so you have easy and full access. Read more
Many readers sent in emails to see if our bungalow survived Hurricane Sandy. The good news is that it did and the amount of damage was far less than we anticipated. We are on the Jersey Shore and the houses that were directly on the ocean (about six houses from us) are gone or basically destroyed. Welcome to the home of Lori and Dan Donza. When they decided to add a great room onto to their 1950′s split level they decided to re-define their style. The goal was to create a gathering room for family and friends to enjoy spending time together, featuring a large farmhouse table and an inviting seating area to accommodate everyone in one space. This is a hip, hardworking couple who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get to work. They wanted to make their mark on the design and wow did they ever, just check out these before pictures.
One of the best things about being a professional designer is that you have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people. This cottage makeover was no exception because my client has impeccable taste and style which made the process a pleasure. In addition she was the General Contractor coordinating and managing all sub-contractors, budgets, time lines, vendors, architects and her designer (that would be me). This project consisted of a complete renovation of a 1950′s ranch, right down to the studs, so as you can imagine this was no small task. It was the first time in twenty years a client of mine was the acting GC and I have to say, she ran the project like a pro! Come take a look, the results speak for themselves.
One of our favorite family gathering spots is our sweet little beach bungalow at the Jersey Shore. As charming as it is now, it didn’t start out that way. Take a peek, it was a hot mess.
Sounds a bit cliche’ I know but this is really how it felt. Planning for a pool is like planning for a wedding! Having experienced both I can tell you the similarities are uncanny. Find Mr. Right, commit, spend a fortune, try your patience and hope for the best.
