Do Small Things with Great Love

2013 Jake's Snowman 030

Hello friends, I wanted to share a quick story about finding joy in our daily tasks. I know we hear it all the time; the little things become the big things, slow down, take time to smell the roses and the list goes on. Well, as a working mother of three children at totally different stages, I can tell you it is all true. This weekend as my teenage daughter was off to dinner with her boyfriend and my middle school son was sleeping over a friends house I realized how fast time is moving for them and at the same time how much slower things are for my little man.  Read more

Her sumptuous designs have been worn by the most iconic and influential women, from Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Rhianna and Beyonce to The Duchess of Cambridge. In honor of NYC Fashion Week our inspiration for interiors is from some of the top fashion designers from around the world. Today we are featuring a personal favorite of mine, Carolina Herrera. Herrera sums it up best here, “I have a responsibility to the woman of today – to make her feel confident, modern and above all else beautiful.” – Carolina Herrera. In addition to her ready to wear collections she introduced her bridal line in 1987.  Read more

Hello Fashion Week, NYC

PicMonkey Collage3

I live just forty minutes outside of NYC so the buzz of Fashion Week is pretty loud especially when you are a designer. February 7-14 fashion designers introduce their Fall 2013 Collections, take a peek at the official site of Fashion Week, there is a live cam on during the day that I am just loving. Fashion is extremely influential to the interior design industry, so this week I want to share ways to infuse the best looks of the runway into your interior. A few weeks ago I introduced an exciting series on the blog called, Inspiration to Interior, in honor of Fashion Week this week our daily inspiration will be from a fabulous fashion designer who is featuring their 2103 Fall Collection at Fashion Week and we will talk about how their creation can inspire an interior. Five Simple Steps: Organization

Part of being an interior designer is helping my clients get organized. It is such an important step for our mental well being especially when starting a project. I can come into your home and design a beautiful space but unless we take time to purge and organize the contents it will go right back to where it was. I came across this workspace from Real Simple and fell in love with the simplicity of the design and the creative organization. Removing the doors opened up the closet so you have easy and full access. Every Wednesday I help readers solve design dilemmas in my Just Ask category, one of my favorite categories on the blog. I woke up to over a hundred design questions from readers, wow. I was inspired by this question to share ideas for designing on a budget using lower price furniture and re-purposed yard sale pieces. Ikea came right to mind; great design, in stock and well priced. This table can be found at Ikea, The Docksta Dining Table ($199.00). Combine it with dining chairs found at yard sales or re-purposed chairs from Grandma’s old dining set for a chic eclectic look. Serious “It” Factor: MackeyBlue, Hoboken

Hoboken AYP interview 015

I know I have said it before but one of the best things about being an Interior Designer is that I get to constantly go shopping for my clients. For me space-planning, color scheme development, furniture and fabric selections are all easy. Finding that perfect piece (the wow factor) to build a design around or accessorizing a room with vintage treasures, not so easy. I love combining my clients family heirlooms with vintage pieces that have history and character. You can’t rush this process, you can’t run out and buy history and character off the shelf, you have to search for it and recognize it. Enter in, Karen Marsh of MackeyBlue located in the heart of Hoboken, NJ. A Friday Find that is a designers dream. Read more
