Mirror Mirror on the Blog

When I’m working on a project I find that by the time we are at the stage for accessorizing my clients have lost their enthusiasm and just want to be done. I understand why, especially when new construction is involved, so I am here to make it easy. This week I am focusing on simple ways to achieve a finished look in your home and tips for accessorizing, starting out with mirrors.

mirror9 I just adore the symmetry of two identical mirrors on either side of the window. The blank walls feel styled and complete. On to the entryway, an oversize mirror gives the foyer a sense of depth and provides an instant wow factor. Placed in front of wainscoting my clients would be concerned that we are covering a design detail but we are actually adding a layer of detail, there is plenty of wainscoting and millwork to enjoy ( I am crazy for the light fixture).

The first mirrors date back over 6000 years ago, read more about their history and the myths about mirrors in this awesome article. Below, the etched glass adds another layer of interest to the mirror. Placing colorful objects in-front of it is a fun way to reflect color (my favorite color) and the accessories.

Mirrors are one of my favorite ways to accessorize a home, they provide function in addition to aesthetics, a winning design combination. They can be used in any room of your house and in any scale or shape. Above a fireplace is a typical spot for a large scale mirror, adding height and a touch of drama.

We all know that the bathroom is standard for having mirrors but I love how this example below has a built in mirror in an unexpected place, adding to the depth and retro feel of the room. Further below, a fabulous Venetian style mirror gives a peaceful retreat a finished look without taking away from the serenity.

I love to entertain outdoors and I want my guests to have a nice view, not face the exterior of my house. Adding a mirror to the exterior wall of the house is genius. I know it is out of the box thinking but the mirror could reflect the sky or in this case beautiful windows providing a nice view for everyone. My goal this week is to inspire you to accessorize and get that finished feel you deserve. Be sure to stop in later in the week for our fabulous Coach Barn accessory Giveaway values at $350.00!

Wedding Design: Super Bowl Style

Ok ladies, it’s Super Bowl Sunday and for most of us that means cooking and serving while our boys have all the fun. Let’s break away for a minute to meet the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, New Jersey native Joe Flacco and his lovely bride Dana Grady. Today I want to share their love story and wedding style.

Jason Prezant Photography 2011

Dana and Joe met at Audubon High School in New Jersey and started dating at the end of his senior year. They dated for nine years before tying the knot in 2011 at the same church his parents were married in, Holy Savior Parish. The day began in the home where Dana was raised, isn’t the lace on her gown and silk trimmed veil exquisite?

After a beautiful ceremony at Holy Savior the next stop was their high school.  Below, look at Dana Flacco playing the part of his offensive line as center. Photographer Jason Prezant created the perfect combination of whimsical, candid and posed images.

A whimsical side of this couple takes the wedding party to an action flick at a Somerdale, NJ, movie theater. Their fabulous wedding planner, Rebecca Richman, told The Baltimore Sun that it held sentimental meaning for the couple.

The reception was held at the  fabulous Hyatt Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. Below is an image from the reception featuring their glamorous table setting, just lovely. The practical side of the couple registered at Crate and Barrel and Macy’s. My favorite pick from their registry was their dinnerware, Vera Wang Wedgewood Gold Lace.

Fast forward to present; The couple welcomed their first baby into the world, June 14, 2012, Stephen Flacco and today February 3, 2013 daddy Joe Flacco may be the next Super Bowl MVP!

Update; Congratulations Baltimore Ravens NFL Super Bowl XLVII Champions and to Joe Flacco Super Bowl MVP!

The Hippest of Hearts

Happy weekend friends, with Valentines Day right around the corner I have hearts on my mind. I wanted to share some of my hip heart finds that I will be making, wearing and decorating with. Above, these sweet little trousers can be found on Esty or you could create them on your own. Below, a simple heart pillow created by Noodlehead can add just the right amount of Valentines Day wow factor you are looking for. If you sew the tutorial walks you through each step here, my daughter Sarah is making one for me shhhh it’s a surprise. She sews way better than me.

I wear hearts year round, don’t laugh it’s fun, so every Valentines Day I try to find a new way to infuse the love. A simple leather heart patch on a cardigan can add the perfect touch. Learn how to create this one of a kind cardigan by IHOD here.

Below, pretty much any vintage marquee is going to be hip and I am in love with this one from Project Decor. Paired with simple bedding, a colorful quilt and a burlap ” I love you” pillow for perfect harmony in the bedroom, hehehe.

Since we are talking about hip hearts, how hip is this tropical home’s painted pathway to Love? You can re-create this look by drawing free-hand hearts with side-walk chalk or creating a stencil and flour chalk for a more professional look from A Practical Wedding. An easy way to spread some Love on Valentines Day at your home (idea: the stencil would be fabulous at a casual wedding reception or ceremony leading the way from the parking lot).

Below, this was an end of the year teacher gift but it could also be created for Valentines Day and copied for everyone. I have also seen a version of this hand-made heart with the bride, groom and wedding party. I hope these hip hearts inspire you to spread a little Love at Valentines Day and all year long.  cathy
