Backsplash Wow

I really enjoy the process of designing a kitchen. Probably because everyone is always so happy to have the opportunity to get a shiny new kitchen of their own choosing, not the used one they inherited when they moved into their place. There are so many decisions you have to make when designing a kitchen that I find this room to be one of the most challenging when it comes to deciding what and where the wow factors will be. The Wow factor can be so many things in a kitchen including the granite, the hood, a fixture, the island and the list goes on. Today we are going to talk about Backspalsh WOW.

Jewel tones in glass are spectacular especially in these various hues of bold red. Also notice the flow of energy that was created by continuing this thin subway mosaic and not interrupting it with any accent tiles. Fabulous Wow.

This fun harlequin pattern in chartreuse and crisp white creates the wow factor based on pattern and color. Whimsical Wow.

This cottage kitchen is sweet and simple in style and hue, enter in the radiant yellow tile backspalsh bringing in a burst of Sunshine Wow.

When the decision is made to have the backspalsh become the  focal point of the room why not go for it!  Sea glass inspired tiles in varying size and color. Pattern Wow.

The simplicity in finish and style of this kitchen creates a relaxing atmosphere, Peaceful Wow.

Vintage inspired kitchen design with an eye catching turquoise mosaic that screams Colorful Wow. I hope you have enjoyed this lesson in Backsplash Wow. I just went into my kitchen to grab a cup of coffee and definitely need a new backsplash!

Family Beach Bungalow

One of our favorite family gathering spots is our sweet little beach bungalow at the Jersey Shore. As charming as it is now, it didn’t start out that way. Take a peek, it was a hot mess.

Recipe for our bungalow; paint everything white, stock kitchen cabinets, crisp blue counter tops and rugs, tile kitchen & bathroom floors, install fans and buy a lot of stuff.

The design goals were clear, create a fresh simple design on a dime. With twelve family members coming and going at any given time the priorities quickly became organization, storage and of course FUN!

Southampton Style: New York

With summer coming to a close I am starved for that glorious feeling of an endless summer day. One that Southampton can absolutely deliver. Elle Decor toured this stunning Victorian, home of Quinn Pofahl and Jaime-Jime’nez and its charm speaks for itself.

Even in the smallest of spaces in this home no design detail is overlooked. I love how the exposed ceiling simply painted in white can define the feel of the space. We did this in our tiny beach bungalow and it created that light bright beach house feel we were after. These rattan chairs are delish aren’t they?

I’m in love with the black floors carried through the first floor. The kitchen combines cottage and modern elements complimenting the eclectic feel of the house.

I think every home near the ocean needs a vintage shark on their wall. A little whimsy and the simplicity of the color scheme creates an inviting room for guests.

Quick Fix: HomeGoods

Lets be honest, when it comes to accessorizing our homes this typically happens when we have nothing left in our budget and our patience is wearing thin. One of my solutions to this problem is to take a run to HomeGoods, they have an ever-changing selection of intriguing accessories and furniture. I go to find those pieces that can complete my design or even to inspire a renovation. The HomeGo0ds blog is also a great place to find tips about the latest store finds and design topics. Check out this article on accessorizing your coffee table HERE.

I spotted this fabulous white lattice vase, snapped a picture, turned around and it was gone. My shopping tip for the day is to get it in the cart, then take stock before you purchase. You can always change your mind, just look at the fabulous piece I missed! Inspired by our love for the Olympics I picked up this adorable London ottoman as a memory for the kids rec room. The other pieces were for client projects and so fun.

I will catalog my finds for you so you can preview whats hot that week. Check Back again but here were my picks for the day. Whether you are designing on a dime or the sky is the limit you can find that perfect piece in a hurry. By the way, I am always in a hurry so this place is my go to, quick fix.
