My friends often ask how I keep my house so tidy working and having three children, especially with a toddler who loves to make messes in every room. The answer is simple, I follow the same steps every morning, transforming my house from disheveled to delightful. The trick is to be consistent and stay on top of it, this means never skipping a day. The good news is that it will come naturally after a few weeks and when it’s time for house cleaning it will be much easier because the house is already tidy. It also means that when guests drop in you can invite them into your home without having to apologize LOL. Read more
A question I often hear when designing kitchens is, “how do I get and stay organized”? I have to be honest, to some of us it is innate to be organized, we crave it and function better knowing we are organized. Because I know this about myself, I feel compelled to help my clients with this daunting chore and wanted to share some of my favorite ways to get organized and stay that way starting with the kitchen.
Spring is the perfect opportunity to start fresh, with flowers blooming and birds chirping why not get your projects in motion, get organized and start spring cleaning. I decided that my House Tour category was the perfect place to talk about home organization and spring cleaning as we tour a renovated barn in Gerona close to the border of France. Removing the doors opened up the closet so you have easy and full access. Read more
Q. My resolution this year is to find a space to call my own. I homeschool my three children and run my household, I need an office but have no idea where to put one with very little space available. Leigh
A. You deserve a space to serve as your command center. As Mothers we juggle many responsibilities, jobs and children. We need a space to call our own where we can clear our heads, get organized and get to work. This week seems to be the perfect time to get organized, I received several questions about finding alternative spaces for home offices. You need to think outside of the box and take a walk around the house. Read more
I had a super fun Wednesday getting back to everyone about their design dilemmas and project questions this week in my Just Ask category. The topic most people were interested in was organization, in particular mud rooms as we approach coat and boot season. I have designed hundreds of them so I am happy to share some inspiration.
Q. As the holidays and winter months approach I need to finally design my mud room. I have the space for built ins but wanted to also see what you can recommend if I just did a long bench with some storage. Barb L.
Q. Can you post pics of playroom ideas for a bright basement space for kids currently ages 3-7? I love decor that isn’t too cutesy but is whimsical and functional.
A. Absolutely, I have designed hundreds of playrooms and a few day care centers and would love to share some ideas. I like to begin by deciding how each area of the space will function; craft area, dress up, ride on vehicles, inside structures, flat screen, gaming station, the list can go on and on. Read more
